Searching for the best barrel horse trainers in the business? Well, look no further. Ed
and Martha Wright have been training the most outstanding barrel horses in the country for
over twenty years. You can always seem to spot a Slash W horse running for the pay window
at almost every level of barrel racing competition in the country...from weekend jackpots
to the NFR! The Wrights' have built a multi-faceted program to fit your every need -
barrel horse sales, nationwide clinics, pre-purchase consultations, private lessons,
custom-made saddles and bits and they have just released their new book, Barrel Racing - Training the Wright Way. Dublin, Texas trainers Ed and Martha Wright are former National
Intercollegiate Rodeo Association champions, Martha in the barrel racing and Ed in the
steer wrestling. They have also qualified many times for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys
Association's Lone Star Circuit Finals.
A two-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, Martha won six
of ten go-rounds at the 1971 NFR. Working together, Martha and Ed have trained barrel
horses who have won numerous futurities, derbies and sweepstakes at major events
throughout the United States.
The Wright's have become famous for buying green, but
sound, two year-old Quarter racehorses off the track and turning them into barrel racing
champions, in events ranging from AQHA shows to Women's Professional Rodeo Association
rodeos.
Rodeo runs especially deep in Martha's blood. She is the
daughter of six-time world champion bull rider and two-time world champion all-around
cowboy, Harry Tompkins.
The foundation of Ed and Martha's approach
to training barrel horses is to educate a young barrel prospect the old
fashioned way - with patience.
